Measurement of $B_d$ mixing using opposite-side flavor tagging
2006
We report on a measurement of the $B^0_d$ mixing frequency and the calibration of an opposite-side flavor tagger in the D{\O}experiment. Various properties associated with the $b$ quark on the opposite side of the reconstructed $B$ meson were combined using a likelihood-ratio method into a single variable with enhanced tagging power. Its performance was tested with data, using a large sample of reconstructed semileptonic $B \to \mu \dzero X$ and $B \to \mu \dst X$ decays, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1 fb$^{-1}$. The events were divided into groups depending on the value of the combined tagging variable, and an independent analysis was performed in each group. …
Confined quarks and the neutrinoless ββ decay
1990
Abstract The half life of the neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge into the ground state of 76Se is calculated in a relativistic quark confinement model. The neutron-proton quasi-particle random phase approximation is used to evaluate the nuclear matrix elements involved in the decay amplitude. We avoid the closure approximation, but compare our results with this approximation. From the experimental half life we deduce an upper limit for the Majorana mass of the neutrino and estimate the right-handed contribution to the charged weak current.
Open-charm meson spectroscopy
2006
We present a theoretical framework that accounts for the new $D_J$ and $D_{sJ}$ mesons measured in the open-charm sector. These resonances are properly described if considered as a mixture of conventional $P-$wave quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. The narrowest states are basically $P-$wave quark-antiquark mesons, while the dominantly four-quark states are shifted above the corresponding two-meson threshold, being broad resonances. We study the electromagnetic decay widths as basic tools to scrutiny their nature. The proposed explanation incorporates in a natural way the most recently discovered mesons in charmonium spectroscopy.
Supersymmetry and neutrinoless double beta decay.
1996
Neutrinoless double beta decay ($\znbb$) induced by superparticle exchange is investigated. Such a supersymmetric (SUSY) mechanism of $\znbb$ decay arises within SUSY theories with R-parity non-conservation (\rp). We consider the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with explicit \rp terms in the superpotential (\rp MSSM). The decay rate for the SUSY mechanism of $\znbb$ decay is calculated. Numerical values for nuclear matrix elements for the experimentally most interesting isotopes are calculated within pn-QRPA. Constraints on the \rp MSSM parameter space are extracted from current experimental half-life limits. The most stringent limits are derived from data on $^{76}$Ge. It is s…
Measurement of theWboson helicity in top quark decays using5.4 fb−1ofpp¯collision data
2011
We present a measurement of the helicity of the W boson produced in top quark decays using t{bar t} decays in the {ell}+jets and dilepton final states selected from a sample of 5.4 fb{sup -1} of collisions recorded using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} collider. We measure the fractions of longitudinal and right-handed W bosons to be f{sub 0} = 0.669 {+-} 0.102 [{+-}0.078 (stat.) {+-} 0.065 (syst.)] and f{sub +} = 0.023 {+-} 0.053 [{+-}0.041 (stat.){+-}0.034 (syst.)], respectively. This result is consistent at the 98% level with the standard model. A measurement with f{sub 0} fixed to the value from the standard model yields f{sub +} = 0.010 {+-} 0.037 [{+-}0.022 (stat.) {…
Relating quarks and leptons with the T7 flavour group
2015
In this letter we present a model for quarks and leptons based on T7 as flavour symmetry, predicting a canonical mass relation between charged leptons and down-type quarks proposed earlier. Neutrino masses are generated through a Type-I seesaw mechanism, with predicted correlations between the atmospheric mixing angle and neutrino masses. Compatibility with oscillation results lead to lower bounds for the lightest neutrino mass as well as for the neutrinoless double beta decay rates, even for normal neutrino mass hierarchy.
Search for the neutral current top quark decayt→Zcusing the ratio ofZ-boson+4 jetstoW-boson+4 jetsproduction
2009
We have used the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) to search for the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark decay t {yields} Zc using a technique employing ratios of W and Z production, measured in p{bar p} data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.52 fb{sup -1}. The analysis uses a comparison of two decay chains, p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} WbWb {yields} {ell}{nu}bjjb and p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} ZcWb {yields} {ell}{ell}cjjb, to cancel systematic uncertainties in acceptance, efficiency, and luminosity. We validate the modeling of acceptance and efficiency for lepton identification over the multi-year dataset using another ratio of W and Z product…
Search for New Bottomlike Quark Pair DecaysQQ¯→(tW∓)(t¯W±)in Same-Charge Dilepton Events
2010
We report the most restrictive direct limits on masses of fourth-generation down-type quarks b{sup '}, and quarklike composite fermions (B or T{sub 5/3}), decaying promptly to tW{sup +}-. We search for a significant excess of events with two same-charge leptons (e, mu), several hadronic jets, and missing transverse energy. An analysis of data from pp collisions with an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb{sup -1} collected with the CDF II detector at Fermilab yields no evidence for such a signal, setting mass limits m{sub b}{sup '}, m{sub B}>338 GeV/c{sup 2} and m{sub T{sub 5{sub /{sub 3}}}}>365 GeV/c{sup 2} at 95% confidence level.
Search for the Associated Production of abQuark and a Neutral Supersymmetric Higgs Boson that Decays intoτPairs
2010
We report results from a search for production of a neutral Higgs boson in association with a $b$ quark. We search for Higgs decays to $\tau$ pairs with one $\tau$ subsequently decaying to a muon and the other to hadrons. The data correspond to 2.7fb$^{-1}$ of $\ppbar$ collisions recorded by the D0 detector at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$TeV. The data are found to be consistent with background predictions. The result allows us to exclude a significant region of parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric model.
Radiative decays in charmonium beyond the p/m approximation
2020
We analyze the theoretical description of radiative decays in charmonium. We use an elementary emission decay model to build the most general electromagnetic transition operator. We show that accurate results for the widths can be obtained from a simple quark potential model reasonably fitting the spectroscopy if the complete form of the operator is used instead of its standard p/m approximation and the experimental masses are properly implemented in the calculation.
